2008 Topps Finest Baseball

2008 Topps Finest Baseball is another medium range priced product from Topps. You get three autographs per box (1 every mini-box) and that's a BIG plus.

Set Features;

Each sealed box contain 18 packs (three 6-pack mini boxes) of 8 cards each in a 168 card set including 25 Rookies and 18 Autograph Rookies. >>> Each box contains THREE Autograph cards and ONE Rookie redemption card. Parallel sets: Refractor 1:3 (also Blue > #`d to 499, Green > #`d to 199, Black > #`d to 99, Gold > #`d to 50, Red > #`d to 25, White X-Fractor > each is a 1-of-1, and Framed Printing Plates > each is a 1-of-1). Inserts: Finest Moments 1:3 (also Autograph, Red Refractor > #`d to 25, and White Framed X-Fractor > each is a 1-of-1), Franchise Favorites 1:6 (also Refractor; Autograph, Red Refractor > #`d to 25, and White Framed X-Fractor > each is a 1-of-1; Dual Autograph, Red Refractor > #`d to 25, and White Framed X-Fractor > each is a 1-of-1, and Dual Framed Autograph Cuts > each is a 1-of-1), and Parallel Redemption Program (redemption cards for a complete Gold X-Fractor set > #`d to 25 are randomly inserted and include base cards, autograph rookie cards and Finest Moments insert cards).

Here's what we pulled in our box of 2008 Topps Finest Baseball.

Base and Parallel Cards;

Nice new framed design on the front of the cards this year. The Topps Finest logo is at the bottom center of the cards above the players name. The players number and position are the only other things on the front of the cards. The back of the cards has the normal short bio along with last years stats and also major league career stat totals. The last thing on the back is the players Finest 2007 Moment. A lot of nice refractors in this box (see below list). Topps Finest continues with the Alex Rodriguez Road To 500 Homeruns. We pulled #s 329 and 342. This comes in the form of a box-topper two pack. Below is a listing of parallels we pulled from our box.

(5) Refractors
(3) Blue Refractors /299
(1) Green Refractors /199
(1) Red Refractors /25
(1) Black Refractors /99
(11) Finest Moments
(7) Topps Team Favorites

Rookie Cards;

The rookie cards have the same base design, but are very apparent from the rest of the set. All of the same information in the same locations as the base. The rookie designation (logo) is at the bottom left hand location on each rookie card. Also, it states 2008 rookie above the Topps Finest logo. We pulled 16 rookies in our box...here's how it broke down.

(10) Regular Rookies
(1) Refractor
(1) Green Refractor /199
(1) Redemption
(2) Refractor Auto /199
(1) Black Refractor Auto /99

Autographed Cards (3) Per Box (1) Per Mini Box;

The autographed cards we pulled are nice high-quality autographs. The autographs are on card and they work very well with the design concept. They actually fit the design of the card and actually add to the card instead of detracting from it. A BIG step that other manufacturers should soon follow. They are of Sam Fuld of the Chicago Cubs and Chris Seddon of the Florida Marlins. All of the autographs are clean and complete without any breaks. The two refractors are numbered to /499 and the black refractor of Chris Seddon is numbered to /99. Really nice autos on the Seddons. I hope his autograph doesn't change over the years like most.

Final Thoughts on 2008 Topps Finest Baseball;

Topps Finest is always a hit for Topps in the mid-range market. The (3) autographs guaranteed per box is the great selling feature for this box. Also, the fact that these are nice on card autographs; this box gets my attention! These boxes can usually be had for between $85 and $129 on most sites that I have checked. If you can get them at the low end it's a good buy in my opinion! Congratulations to Topps for getting on card autographs in this set.

Here's how I would rate this product;

Value = 5
Innovation = 5
Fun and Experience = 5
Rebuy Value = 4

I rate this product an "A" for Topps! It's nice to see mid range boxes contain three on card autographed cards.

All of these cards will be given away in contests or for MOTM awards. One of these autographed cards will be going out to Kevalan as part of his prize package for being MOTM for March. I would like to thank Clay from Topps and Trader Retreat for giving me the chance to review this new product.
